TILE FACTORY BACKGROUND INFORMATION Tile Factory is a multi-faceted Top 400 privately-owned Queensland business. The business has wholesale and retail arms. The wholesale business trades under the name Tile Factory and Tile Factory Outlet. It offers a trade division to service builders and contractors, a commercial division to service large building contractors and specifiers with a focus on commercial projects; a wholesale business supplying to ceramic tile retailers throughout Queensland, northern New South Wales, the Northern Territory, New Guinea and New Zealand; and an outlet store for budget projects. Tile Factory is also the licensor of 14 Concept Tiles and Surfaces and 7 Tile Factory Outlet retail stores along the east coast of Australia. Concept Tiles stores sell not only ceramic tiles, but also timber floating flooring, and bathroom vanities, tapware and accessories, carpet and lighting. Individual store owners are licensed to use the Concept Tile brand, allowing maximum independence for regional and managerial style, while still having benchmarks for product range, supply and promotion as a group. Tile Factory has one company-owned Concept Tiles store, located at Moorooka. 3 new retail stores are scheduled to open in Queensland and New South Wales in the next 12 months.
DAVID PEEL TILE FACTORY CHAIRMAN David started the Tile Factory business in 1982. He managed the importing, exporting, wholesaling and retailing elements of the business during this time. He has worked in the ceramic tile distribution business since 1977 and started his career as a bank teller with the Commonwealth Bank. He was National President of the Australian Tile Council from 1993 to 1995; Vice President from 1990 to 1992, and President of the Queensland Division for two years in the late 1980s. David received an Order of Australia in 2006 for Service to the Community as a result of work through the Greater Brisbane Area Consultative Committee to develop employment opportunities for Indigenous people and small business. David stepped down as Managing Director of the business handing over the day to day reins to Greg Eyers in 2007 to allow him more time for personal pursuits. David cycles and kayaks, travels extensively and is also a Care Flight pilot. He lives in Noosa with his wife, Helen.
GREG EYERS TILE FACTORY MANAGING DIRECTOR After seven years as Tile Factory's General Manager, Greg purchased equity in 2006 and made the move to Managing Director of the group. He has overseen significant changes and an increase in business during those years. Greg started working with David Peel in 1981. He then moved on to gain an apprenticeship in tiling and operated his own successful tiling business for many years. At an age that will remain unspoken, Greg decided that he would like to move to other areas of the industry. He took on the role of operating the then Tile Factory Virginia store in 1996. Since then Greg has been instrumental in creating the new pathway that the Tile Factory is now travelling. Prior to taking on the role as General Manager, Greg opened and operated the first Concept Tiles and Surfaces store, then located in Albion. The first Concept Tiles and Surfaces store served as a melting pot of ideas, which would revolutionalise the way tiles were retailed in Queensland. This store introduced a combination of concepts like; kid's play areas, customer play tables, concept displays (rather than single tile displays), coffee and even finance options. The Concept Tiles and Surfaces stores and Tile Factory Outlets are now licensed, rather than company owned. Combined, they represent a significant force in the tile industry in Queensland and Northern NSW. Greg continues to lead Tile Factory and his Management Team toward their 5 year strategic plan, which will continue to see significant growth of the business into 2013 and beyond. |
